Common modal verbs explained

Explanation

In a simple German statement, the conjugated verb normally takes the second position. The subject often comes first, but another element such as time can take position one.

Ich lerne heute Deutsch.
Heute lerne ich Deutsch.

Both sentences are correct. Notice that lerne remains the second element.
