A relative clause gives more information about a noun. It begins with a relative pronoun and sends the conjugated verb to the end: Das ist der Mann, der nebenan wohnt.
The pronoun agrees with the noun in gender and number, but its case depends on its role inside the relative clause. Compare die Frau, die hier arbeitet, die Frau, die ich kenne and der Mann, dem ich helfe.
